ITD was tasked to move all company data including email, company shares, user profile data and SQL databases onto a new server infrastructure with high-availability, without any downtime of critical applications.
The challenge was to achieve this with minimal user disruption and improve application performance for critical applications.
ITD performed an IT review on the current hosted environment to determine the amount of company data that needed to be transferred to the new hosted environment, the SQL version required and the number of active users on the system.
At the same time ITD installed a new fibre connection to replace the existing point-to-point connection that the previous IT incumbent had installed as a break-out to their datacentre. This allowed us to setup the new system in parallel with the current system.
ITD liaised with a member of staff from each company in order to communicate updates and gather any company information required for the migration. With this information gathered ITD was able to perform and transfer all company data (including emails) over to the new VMware vCloud environment.
Once the migration was performed at the weekend ITD carried out a number user tests on critical applications like for example Bloomberg, Outlook and SQL applications to make sure all was working as per normal.
“The migration was managed in very professional manner, we noticed improvements in Bloomberg performance straight away.”
The system has given our client increased application performance and increased user productivity benefits. They now have the peace of mind that their data is located on a highly-redundant server environment that meets Financial Conduct Authority (FCA) regulations.
