Our client was running company emails on a local company emails on a local Windows Small Business Server 2011 environment, and becoming increasing reliant on email for both client and supplier communication. They had taken the decision to move all email functionality to the Office 365 cloud, enabling their trainers around the world access to their emails on a highly available and scalable cloud solution.
After reviewing the email system and analysing the impact of email downtime for the business, ITD recommended that all email functionality would be better suited to being hosted in a cloud environment.
With a large number of email users in various international locations, the client required an email system that provided full high availability, flexible licensing costs and to be accessed from anywhere in the world.
ITD’s approach for migrating the client’s email onto the Office 365 platform started by analysing the current email system in detail to understand which domains and active users need to be migrated. In order to achieve the correct information for the migration ITD worked alongside the client’s own dedicated IT personnel.
With the technical information acquired and migration dates agreed, ITD was then able to build and configure the new Office 365 infrastructure in the background ready for the agreed email migration weekend. Information on the new system and how to access the new email system was sent to all client staff in order to ensure correct procedures are followed once the migration has been performed.
Once the migration was underway ITD performed a number of email tests to ensure everything was in working order. We attended site on the Monday after the weekend migration to ensure all post-migration issues are dealt with as quickly as possible.

The client now has an email system that is highly available and does not require the expense of purchasing any new server hardware onsite. With emails now located in Office 365 all users are now able to access emails in any location around the world.
